Ponder This:

There are many ways to relax. Here is suggestion #689 from the book 1001 Ways to Relax by Mike George: “Teach someone your special skill – whether it’s art or algebra, birdwatching or ballroom dancing, yoga or yachting. There are few greater gifts you can offer. Combine this with the gifts of patience and understanding – and tolerance of a beginner’s inevitable mistakes.”

06/22… At our meeting last night we had elections and the current slate of officers was re-elected. We spent most of the meeting talking about the Association and its role in our neighborhood. We brainstormed about different methods for reaching out to the various groups in our community. How do we reach those people who are not members and make sure they hear about us?

We will continue exploring various options over the next few months… so if you have suggestions, ideas, comments, send them to us via email or snailmail… or give us a call. Find out how to reach us in the “Contact us” section.

                              **************************************************************************

06/15 … Lets talk about civic groups… our civic group… and what it needs to become in the 21st century…look for some questions about our Association and the ways we reach out to the members of our community in the next newsletter… or you can begin your review right now by going to our “chitchat” section. Then take a moment out and give us your feedback. Send us an email at ndcca@excite.com or newdorpcentralcivic@yahoo.com.

06/15Get involved with your community. Volunteer to help us in our work. Even an hour a month would help! Call 979-6011 and tell us you want to help.

05/10 … Meet Councilman James Oddo and Robert Englert, the Director of Land Use for the SI Borough President’s Office at our May 17 meeting. Plan now on attending.

05/10 … And while you are making plans, mark May 30 on your calendars and join us for our 43rd Dining event at the Restaurant on the Plaza at 7pm.  Bring your family and friends… and those who you would like to make friends with to this event. Call Linda at 718-351-3714 to make your reservation. Check our Dining Program page for additional details.

02/20 … Meet the new Commanding Officer of the 122nd Precinct – Deputy Inspector Thomas Delahanty – at the next Community Council meeting on February 21 at 8pm at the precinct at 2320 Hylan Blvd. You should also bring your quality of life issues and other concerns. The meeting is your forum for expressing your concerns to the NYPD. Do not miss this opportunity to meet the new boss and express your concerns.

02/20 … Plan now on attending our next meeting on Thursday night March 15 when Kay Pesile will speak to us about things financial. Bring your friends, neighbors and questions for an enlightening evening with an astute financial planner.

02/20 … And have you journeyed down by New Dorp Beach and Cedar Grove?  The new park is beginning to take shape and it looks terrific.

11/13 … Plan now on attending our meeting Thursday night when Tom Wrobleski from the Staten Island Advance will be our guest speaker. Tom will be there to answer our questions concerning the recent elections, the political climate on Staten Island, and any other political question you might have. So plan now on attending. Bring your friends, bring your neighbors, and bring your questions.

10/23 … If you heard Meagan Devereaux describe the many responsibilities handled in the Office of the Borough President at our meeting on October 19, then you gained a new respect for the value of the Office. Ms.Devereaux also highlighted her role in the process as she approached each day, never guaranteed about what will be the hot topic of the day. Her insight was welcomed and revealing.

Next month’s meeting will have Tom Wrobleski – the political writer for the SIAdvance – who will share his insights with us as we look at the results of November’s elections. Come and bring a neighbor and some questions for our guest speaker. You can catch up on Tom’s insights in his political blog found at: http://www.silive.com/newslogs/politics/ <http://www.silive.com/newslogs/politics/>

10/01 … We have confirmed that Meagan Devereaux will be our guest speaker at our October meeting. Ms.Devereaux is the Chief of Staff to Borough President James Molinaro. Meagan will speak about the role and responsibilities of a Chief of Staff as well as some of the unknown tasks that a Borough President works on. So plan now on attending our next meeting and… bring a friend.

09/24 … We had the groundbreaking for the new New Dorp Beach Park on Friday Sep 22. The park is located at the foot of New Dorp Lane between the Lane and Ebbitts and between Cedar Grove and the ocean.  This will be a park for walking or jogging or strolls down to the waterfront. We first asked Jim Oddo and Jim Molinaro about this many, many moons ago. Thankfully they kept this idea alive in their minds and now have brought it to the point of being constructed with the planned opening day of June 2007. It is a wonderful success for our organization !
